Travel Tips & Tricks
We have been travelling quite a bit these days and want to share with you the cool places we've discovered while on tour. So pack your bags, load up the car and hit the road with us!
Cherokee, NCLeaving Atlanta, we decided to stop off at the Cherokee Nation to look for some authentic supplies for a new number we are working on. Well, what an unexpected and amazing day we had. It started off with the drive up from Atlanta. Once you go from 85N to 985N onto Routes 23/411 N you are in a road trip dream. Routes 23/411N are decorated with Appalachian Mountain beauty. Scattered along these routes are family owned and run country kitchens, general stores, motels and boot/horse stores. This is now one of our favorite roads and we can't wait to go back and eat at every one of those country kitchens and stop at every one of the roadside fleamarkets. You take 411N right into Cherokee, NC home of the Cherokee Nation and the Great Smokey Mountains. We are going back and spending much more than one whole day, we're thinking about a good ol' month. Just follow the signs to the Cherokee Reservation and park your car and enjoy. There are lots of little shops where you can suit yourself up mighty fine, as well as cute motels and great restaurants.
Shops & Stuff
Little Bear Leather Shop This store has beautiful belts, feathered hair bands (Angie got a whole bunch), leather bags, and the most helpful staff. The wonderful man working the store told us of a little hike just up the road that would lead us to a beautiful waterfall. Well, we made our purchases and were on our way to the trail. Outdoor Adventures Mingo Falls Mingo Falls is a 200-foot waterfall on the Cherokee Indian Reservation. Just follow Big Cove Road to Mingo Falls Campground, park and the trail starts right there in the parking lot. It's a very short hike, a little steep, but short. Then you are standing at the foot of a beautiful waterfall. This was one of the highlights for sure! Thank you Cherokee Nation! We can't wait to visit again.
Eats Maggie Valley Restaurant Southern home cooking at its finest. We were starving after our day of enjoying the Cherokee Nation, so we decided to stop for food in the neighboring town of Maggie Valley. It was a great decision on our part. Maggie Valley Restaurant is loaded with southern dishes to chose from. We all enjoyed their sweet corn on the cob, homemade mashed potatoes and gravey. Tara ate every last crumb of her country meatloaf! Delicious. Maggie Valley Restaurant 2804 Soco Rd (Rte 19) Maggie Valley, NC 28751 828.926.0425
